About the event

On Saturday September 7th, the 8th Annual, "8K Hero & Remembrance Run, Walk, or Roll" will take place on Ford Island. This event honors the 8,000+ service members who have died in the service of our country since September 11, 2001.

This event is open to everyone military and non-military civilians.

The Hero & Remembrance is a unique memorial for the fallen of this generation, surrounded by the Pearl Harbor memorials of generations pasts. Here the roads of Ford Island will be lined with combat boots, each boot representing a service member who has fallen, either in combat or in garrison after 9-11. Each boot will have the photo of the honored fallen, as well as information to tell those in attendance the fallen's name, branch of service, and the date/location of their passing.

This event was created in 2012 to Honor our Fallen Service Members while raise awareness about the mission of the Fisher House Foundation. For more information got to www.fisherhouse.org Fisher Houses are built to provide comfort homes to our Service Members and their Families during a medical crisis. This is my 8th year honoring our Fallen Service Members by creating an event that would bring back the names and faces of all Service Members who lost their lives in combat and through their service since 9/11.

This is a "no cost" event because these Fallen Service Members have already paid the ultimate price. There is a boot with a picture of a Fallen Service Member on it that will line the 8K route. Once the event is over the boots will be reassembled on Historic Ford Island on the corner of Enterprise & O'Kane and will stay on display until 14 Sept 2019. This will allow everyone an opportunity to look through the boots to find the names and pictures of loved ones. This is one display that will leave you breathless when you see them all in one location and get a visual of the sacrifice made on our behalf and the number of family and friends left behind. Bring a camera you will want to take pictures.

ALL NON MILITARY ID CARDHOLDER WILL BE REQUIRED TO GET A BASE SPONSORED PASS. All access to Ford Island will be accessible from 0400-0645 on 7 Sept 2019. Since this is a military installation everyone including all non military ID card holders are subject to search per base regulations.

We highly encourage everyone to come out and support this event in any capacity you can. The run is not a timed event, we welcome spectators along the route to wave flags and cheer folks on. We will need volunteers for several locations. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us at 931-217-0800 or email me at theresa.m.johnson2@aol.com .

We will have the "Patriot Guard" style escort and motorcycle riders lead off the run, motorcycle clubs are welcome to join us but all riders will have to have proper PPE ber base regulations, no exceptions.

Military units in formation will form up on the inside of the field, once the Motorcycle Riders lead off, handbikes, wheelchairs and Wounded Warriors next, military units will fall in followed by the rest of the participants, with strollers and other wheels at the end.

All wheelchairs, handbikes, stroller, roller skates, roller blades, wagons, and small childrens bikes are welcomes, please no adult bikes except for the rear follow up riders. Please do not bring pets, Service Dogs & Military Working Dogs with their vests on are welcomed. The military unit with the most participants registered online by 4 Sept will be awarded the "Traveling Bronzed Boots" at a presentation prior the run at 0615 by the Starting line stage. Last Year's group, NAVY CPO MESS will pass the boots (2YR CAP ON WINNING).

All parking will be on Ford Island as directed when you come across the bridge, due to the amount of anticipated participants carpooling and busses are recommend, There is no cost for parking. You should plan to arrive by 0500 to ensure access to base before the bridge closes.

We would like to give a very special Mahalo to the Command of JBPHH for their continued support for this amazing opportunity to share this event with everyone. Mahalo to the hundreds of volunteers who come out each year regardless of the weather and make sure that each and every boot is perfect and each family is loved on, we could not to this without you. Mahalo to the Hickam Honor Guard for their support with this event each year as they provide military honors prior to the event. There will be an opening ceremony at 0630.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

YES, ALL NON MILITARY ID CARD HOLDERS WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE PEARL HARBOR NIMITZ GATE VISITORS CENTER TO GET A PASS. Everyone will be able to get a pass a few days prior to the event, you will need a copy of your drivers license, proof of insurance and a valid registration. Let them know you will be attending the Sept 7th run and they will give you a pass valid for that day only. If you are going to volunteer to place the boots on the 5th let them know that as well so you can get that added to your pass.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There will be free parking on Ford Island. Once on the island there will be people directing traffic to the proper parking.

Each year we have thousands attend traffic can be challenging trying to get on island since there is only one way on. I would highly suggest that you plan to carpool, bring a bus and arrive early.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Email Anita.f.clingerman@gmail.com or theresa.m.johnson2@aol.com or my Facebook!!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
